There are many names for this plant and it's not actually a "crocus," e.g., kippiaapi (Blackfoot), prairie crocus, wind flower, meadow anemone, pasque flower, mountain crocus, blue tulip, cutleaf anemone, Anemone patens, A. pulsatilla, Pulsatilla nuttalliana, P. patens, P. ludoviciana, gosling, may flower, wild crocus, wild prairie crocus... and it's a buttercup.
